Emergency Tarping
Emergency Roof Tarping in Florida
When a roof fails during a storm or after sudden structural damage, the immediate priority is protecting the interior of the building from further water intrusion. Every hour that passes with a compromised roof in a Florida rain event is another hour of damage to ceilings, insulation, framing, flooring, and contents.
We have crews available around the clock for emergency tarping on residential and commercial properties. This is not a service we offer reluctantly as an afterthought — it is the first line of response when a roof failure creates an emergency situation.
When You Need Emergency Tarping
Emergency tarping is appropriate in any situation where the roof can no longer perform its primary function and the interior is exposed.
This includes direct storm damage: hurricane, tropical storm, and severe thunderstorm events that strip shingles, displace tiles, tear membrane sections, or deposit debris that penetrates the roof surface. Florida averages more than 100 thunderstorm days per year, and the First Coast is in the path of Atlantic hurricane activity. Roof emergencies are not rare here.
It also includes non-storm situations: tree impact from limbs or full tree falls, fire damage that compromises the roof deck, sudden structural failures, and situations where a known roof problem becomes a failure event during a weather system.
If you are unsure whether your situation qualifies, call us. We would rather come out and find a situation that did not require emergency response than have you hesitate and sustain additional damage.
What Emergency Tarping Involves
A proper emergency tarp installation is not throwing a hardware store tarp over a hole. Done correctly, it is a weatherproof temporary covering installed to prevent water from reaching the interior of the structure for a meaningful period of time while permanent repairs are being planned and scheduled.
We use commercial-grade tarps and secure them with battens and fastening systems designed to hold in wind. Tarps that are not properly secured become a secondary hazard in windy conditions and fail to protect the structure. An improperly tarped roof also creates documentation problems for insurance purposes.
We document the installation with photographs and provide a written record of the condition of the roof at the time of emergency response. That documentation is directly relevant to any insurance claim that follows.
Insurance Documentation
Emergency tarping is often covered under the same insurance claim as the underlying damage. Having a professional contractor perform the tarping — and document it properly — supports the overall claim. A handyman tarp job with no documentation is harder to include in a claim and may create questions about the timeline of the damage.
We provide complete written and photographic documentation of every emergency tarping project as standard practice.
What Comes After Tarping
A tarp is temporary protection. It is not a repair and should not be treated as one. Once the structure is secured, the next step is a full damage assessment and a plan for permanent repair or replacement.
We conduct the follow-on assessment after every emergency tarping job and provide a complete written scope for the permanent work. If the situation involves an insurance claim, we coordinate the assessment and scope with the claims process as described on our insurance restoration page.
